This Cold Case Kansas special covers the political unrest in Lawrence,
Kansas, that led to the deaths of Rick "Tiger" Dowdell and Nick Rice.
Dowdell was shot by police on July 16, 1970. Rice was shot when
patrolmen opened fire on a crowd outside the Gaslight Tavern four days
later. Interviewed for this account were writer Jim Girard, historian
Rusty Monhollon, and Rice's mother. The article appeared in
